After almost 10 years of having the same Samsung TV, it finally gave up on me. In the middle of watching a Netflix show, it shut off on me and it never came back on.
A quick search on Amazon and Best buy on TVs got me so confused with the types of televisions you can get nowadays. There's QLED, OLED, Nanocell, flat screen, curved screens, 4K or 8K resolution and the size of TVs are getting bigger and bigger.
Luckily I have a brother who can help me with deciding on a television but there are still tons of information on televisions on the internet these days. However, he linked me to a very helpful article: Best TVs - Winter 2020 that gave me a short list of the best TVs on the market right now in different price ranges. I am willing to spend a little more on quality and hopefully it last 5-10 years.
I looked into the LG - 55" Class BX Series OLED 4K UHD Smart webOS TV and decided this was my best option. It also comes in the 65" size. The LG BX OLED is the entry-level TV in LG's 2020 4k OLED lineup. It sits below the LG CX OLED and replaces the LG B9 OLED 2019 model.
Here are some features of the TV:
OLED display feature
4K (2160p) resolution
Dolby Vision, HDR 10, Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG)
120Hz refresh rate
4K Upscaling, True Color Accuracy, Infinite Contrast, Perfect Black, Billion Rich Colours, Pixel Level Dimming, Intense Color
webOS Smart Platform
OLED means Organic Light Emitting Diode which contains an organic compound that emits light in response to electricity. This means it can display deeper blacks than LCD screens and generally display greater contrast ratios in ambient light. The problem with OLED screens is the risk of permanent burn-in when an image is paused for too long, it can permanently be burned into the screen. Since purchasing the television, I have been very mindful of this and try not to pause too often and too long. But I've noticed that whenever I pause the TV, a black pause screen comes on to alleviate this burn-in risk so you know they are aware of this issue and working on reducing it.

I am so far enjoying this TV, the resolution is sharp and clear, the colors are vibrant and can we talk about how thin this TV is?? It's only 1.8 inches thick, amazing!! Navigating through the smart TV home page is super easy and fast and comes with a "Magic" remote. The Magic remote lets you use a pointer on the TV that lets you scroll and select apps, play or pause very easily. The remote also has quick access buttons to Netflix, Prime Video and Movies; making watching your favorite shows so much easier. I purchased it right after Thanksgiving at $1,299 and since then it has gone up $100, however, I'm sure it'll go down again closer to Christmas or after.
